Honeydew

May 26th 2011  6:12pm
Today, Jody has prompted me to begin a blog.  She says, "If what you say can bring such joy and happiness to me, just think what your words can do for everyone else."
I have no problem with this as I will probably mostly be describing her and the wonder she brings to me.  Why not share her with the world... after all, sharing is caring.
So I'll begin with the projects.  The 'Honey-Do' list as many of you may commonly refer to the chores left by your wives.  Honestly, I remember the 'light bulb' that went off the day I realized we weren't talking about the melon.  So, it mustn't have been long ago when the concept of a 'Honeydew'list began festering in my mind.
You're probably all wondering why I'm going off on a tangent about my 'Honeydew' list. Well, this is currently bringing the most excitement into our home beside our puppy, Zoom, who will surely be the crux of many 'Do's in the near future.  The fence being the prominant project in the near future.  Now, I'll guide you in a 'Honeydew' tour of our house because, in my opinion, it's the best way to give you a tour of my homelife without being physically escorted.
She hasn't mentioned the fence in a day or two but because I've already mentioned that one and don't want to 'jump around' too much, I'll begin there.
THE FENCE:  We are practically fenced in on three sides.  Our neighbors on either side have the HOA approved triple slat/chicken wire fence thats about five feet high.  Along the back of our property we have an old farm property fence of which I've pulled all the barbed wire and rolled into a two foot diameter ball and hung from the tree.  Our dog has slipped through the fence a few times after our cats but I'm trying to convince Jody he will outgrow that ability soon.   (Hopefully Zoom can't get past the fence much longer. This way I'll only need to worry about fencing from the Neighbor's fence to my house.)
THE GATE:  If you've seen my deck, you'll know I like to 'go big'.  So when Jody asked me to build a fence in her subtle, 'save me from having to chase our dog', voice.  I couldn't help but begin to come up with a few great ideas.  The first idea occured to me while I was helping my dad with his personal 'Honeydew' list, building mom a grape arbor.  Naturally, we'll have something superb as a gateway to our bonsai backyard.  ***(very small but taken very seriously)
***Side Note: Jody gifted me a bonsai tree for Christmas.  It is doing very well, green and flowering regularly.  In the pot began growing what appears to be a baby bonsai.  I have planted it in a separate baby bonsai pot.
THE PATIO:  The reason I haven't built a gate or a fence.  I feel there is an order for projects and in this case, the patio is a foundation that will hold everything together.  This is where, for me, the vision really comes together.  Almost creepily, Jody regularly knows what I'm thinking before I even know.  She frequently expresses this knowledge which results in a very elaborite list.  (This isn't one of those times.)  I have taken this honeydew and mutated it into an endlessly-evolving giant that only can be conquered by 'Blood Sweat and Tears' and one very long summer.  To my wife, I'll say this, "I'm your vehicle baby I'll take you places you never imagined."  (and anywhere else you may want to go)
THE AWNING:  The drip that spawned an awning!  Sometimes known as rain, Jody made sure the deck was built on a founation that could eventually support a superstructure.  The deck in itself could carry a tank but that's not good enough for my wife.  She, along with me, would like to have the ability to conceal that tank.  Or sit outside on a beautiful rainy spring day like today.  (The best part of having a dog is he gets me outside on days like these.  Mostly because we don't have a fence so a quarter of the time we let him out we end up chasing him up or down the street.)
"Honey, Dinner is served.  Come and get it!"  She demands as she enters the room with a plate full of chicken parmesean on angel hair.  "I can't wait to make my own sauce this summer" she says referring to the square foot garden that sits beside the deck.
Welcome to my life and it's many great projects and adventures.
